Breast Augmentation LondonBreast Augmentation

Breast enlargement is the most popular type of cosmetic surgery. Ladies who have had breast augmentation are often the happiest cosmetic surgery patients.

Mr Uppal will discuss with you the different types of implants that are available such as the round and the tear-drop shaped implant. He will also explain the pros and cons of placing the implants under or over the chest muscle. You will get a chance to discuss the actual size of breasts that you want.

The surgery requires a general anaesthetic for about 45 minutes and almost all patients leave hospital the same day after surgery. No drains are inserted into the breast. Although some ladies go back to work the next day, most take 2 to 3 days off work to recover. Patients can fly 2 days after their surgery.

Breast enlargement requires a surgeon specializing in breast surgery as correct implant selection and size of pocket is critical in getting results that are not only beautiful but also long lasting.

If you're considering breast augmentation...

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast for a number of reasons:

  1. To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small.
  2. To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy.
  3. To balance a difference in breast size.
  4. As a reconstructive technique following breast surgery.

The best candidates for breast augmentation..

Ladies who are seeking an improvement in their breast size and shape are the ideal candidates. Ladies seeking perfection are not good candidates for breast surgery. Although breast surgery  can improve confidence it may not necessarily transform the way people treat you or change other aspects of your life.

Breast implants...

Breast implants are made of silicone which is safe. Silicone implants have been used in Europe for over 30 years and have also been approved in the US by the FDA, which is the American regulatory body. Information about implants can be obtained from the MHRA website here..

All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk...

Breast augmentation is a safe procedure. Most patients are delighted with the results and often wished they had had it done sooner. However there are some risks involved. There is a small scar under the breast which fades with time. Long-term the body develops a capsule of scar around the implant which can make the breast feel different over the years. Less common risks that occur in less than 5% of patients include infection, bleeding, blood clots, implant rupture, rippling, palpable implant and implant movement.

Implant position and pocket..Breast Augmentation Surgery in London

The implants can be placed over or under the chest muscle. The reasons for choosing one over the other are complex and Mr Uppal will advise which option is best for you to give you the best result. In principle the more layers that cover the implant the better the shape and feel of the implant. Implants can be placed totally under the muscle or partially under the muscle depending on your skin, muscle width and chest size. Your build and general body shape are also factors that Mr Uppal will take into consideration. Please feel free to ask as many questions as required to feel confident that you have understood everything.

Before Surgery

During your initial consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your health and explain the surgical technique he feels will be best for you based on your breasts and skin tone. If your breasts are sagging, he may also advise an uplift procedure. Your initial consultation is also the time for you to discuss the results you are looking for, including how much larger you would like your breasts to be. This is an issue you want to think through carefully as a very large augmentation won't look natural and may cause rippling of the skin in the sides of the breast. It's very important that you be totally frank with your surgeon about your expectations and the goals you want to achieve – and equally important that your surgeon be frank with you about your alternatives and the plusses and minuses of each.

After Surgery

You should expect some discomfort during the first one or two days after your surgery , especially when you move around or cough. However you'll be up and about within hours. Mr Uppal and the anaesthetic team will prescribe pain relief to lessen your discomfort. You'll be most comfortable if you continue wearing a sports bra like the one you were fitted with after your surgery around the clock for the first two or three weeks as your bruising subsides. Surgical drains are not used, so there are none to be removed and as your stitches are dissolvable they will not need removal either. Should a small amount of stitch be visible it may be cut short or simply left in place until it dissolves.
