Septo-Rhinoplasty

Many patients have a problem with reduced breathing through their nose as well as the appearance of their nose. Often patients undergo surgery to change the shape of their nose at the same time as having surgery to improve the breathing through their nose. This is usually covered by their insurance company (if available) as it is a functional improvement of the nose as opposed to a purely cosmetic operation that is not covered by insurance.

Breathing through the nose is affected by injury or an abnormal position of the cartilages in the nose. A septo-rhinoplasty involves changing the shape of the cartilages and correcting the position of the septum in the middle of the nose to improve breathing. This can help with sleeping better, snoring, sports and general comfort with breathing through the nose.

Septo-rhinoplasty takes about an hour to perform and a plaster is worn on the nose for 1 week. There is often no packing inside the nose which is used for patients with complex cases.
