Why Us?
High Quality care
We strive for perfection to get you the best results from your surgery. Although absolute perfection is not possible due to the limits inherent in surgery, Mr Uppal will use his knowledge and many years of experience to ensure you achieve what you are looking for.
Lifetime care
You will be seen 1 week after going home from hospital to check your bandages. Mr Uppal will see you 2 weeks after your surgery to make sure you are well and answer any questions. You will then get another appointment at 3 months for a check up. After that you can call the office at any time in the years that follow for advice and support if needed. We are always happy to see you at anytime.
Qualifications
Mr Uppal qualified in Medicine and Surgery from the University of London at the Royal Free Hospital in 1993. He was awarded a Master of Science from University College London in 1998 for his research into the science of wound healing and repair of skin. This was as a result of his work in the University laboratory that involved culture of cells in growth medium to study the effects of certain medicines on the healing response of the human body.
Mr Uppal was conferred the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1999 which allowed him to take the title of Mr instead of Dr. This tradition dates back to Elizabethan times when the ‘Barber’ surgeons were called Mr as they had no medical degree but had many sharp knives. At that time, only the physicians had medical degrees and could be referred to as Dr.
In 2006 Mr Uppal gained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons specialising in Plastic Surgery. This confers the letters FRCS(Plast) after his name and qualifies him as a consultant in the NHS. He was then added on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery by the GMC.
To be awarded the FRCS(Plast) Mr Uppal had to complete a rigorous training program that lasts 13 years in the UK. Most European countries have a much shorter training program of only 3 to 4 years but under EU regulations are allowed to be added to the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in the UK. Therefore a surgeon who is on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery by the GMC in no way reflects the experience and skills attained by a UK trained surgeon who has been appointed as a Consultant in the NHS.
In addition, not all plastic surgeons in the UK have been admitted to membership of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. This is an honour conferred by senior surgeons in the field of plastic surgery to ensure the high standards and reputation of BAAPS are maintained. Mr Uppal was made a member of BAAPS in 2006.
He is also a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) which is the main UK professional body of plastic surgeons based at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in London.
